MeetBites

Biometric Policy

Last updated: 10 October 2026

1. What the selfie check is

To confirm that you are a real person who matches your profile photos, MeetBites asks you to take a live selfie in your browser. It is compared with your own profile photos. This creates a scan of your face geometry (a biometric identifier). We compare your selfie only with the profile photos you uploaded. We never compare it with other people’s photos, and we never use it to identify anyone.

A pass earns a verified badge. A live selfie matched this person's profile photos. It does not check ID, age or background.

2. Why we do it

Only to decide pass or fail for this check, and to prevent impersonation and fraud. We do not use it for advertising, for age or ID checks, for training, or for anything else.

3. Who processes it

Amazon Web Services (AWS) processes the selfie for us, using Amazon Rekognition Face Liveness and face comparison, in a United States region. It acts on our instructions as our processor. See Subprocessors. No storage of the selfie or of its results is set up on our side.

4. How long we keep it

WhatHow long
Your live selfie and any face data (the scan of your face geometry)Never stored by MeetBites. Deleted immediately after the check. The photo we compare against is read into memory and discarded.
The result: pass or fail, the method and the date, and which profile photo it matchedUntil you delete your account or 24 months after you last use MeetBites, whichever comes first.
Your consent record (what you agreed to, the wording version, the time)180 days after you delete your account, with your registration details.

5. No sale, no profit

We never sell, lease, trade or otherwise profit from biometric data. We disclose it only to AWS as our processor, or where a court or authority lawfully requires it.

6. How we protect it

The video is streamed from your browser straight to AWS over an encrypted connection. Our server asks AWS for the result and discards the images. Your browser gets short-lived, narrow permission that lets it start only a check our server has created. Access to AWS is limited to that one purpose and is protected by keys that we keep as secrets and rotate if needed. A check expires after 10 minutes.

Before the camera opens we show a box that you must tick yourself. By ticking it and tapping Agree you give your written release (an electronic signature). Reading the Terms is separate and never counts as this consent. You can withdraw at any time in Settings, under Privacy and consents. If you withdraw, we remove your photo-verified badge and delete your verification record.

8. The alternative with no face scan

You do not need a face scan to get verified. Choose “Verify without a face scan”. You take a photo, or a short video, of yourself holding a code word we show you. A person at MeetBites compares it with your profile photos. We delete the photo or video as soon as the reviewer decides, and an upload nobody has reviewed is deleted within 7 days. No biometric template is made. Only the pass or fail result and the method are kept, as above. The badge has the same meaning.

9. Optional ID verification is a different check

MeetBites also plans an optional government ID check (an Aadhaar or DigiLocker-style check) through a licensed ID-verification vendor, to be named when it is enabled. It is not switched on yet. It is not the selfie check: MeetBites makes no face scan for it and keeps no biometric from it. You do it inside the vendor’s own flow, where you give your consent. We keep only the result (that you passed, that you are 18 or older, the method, the time and the vendor’s reference) and we never keep your ID number, ID images or date of birth. The result is deleted with your account. See the Privacy Notice and Subprocessors.

10. Review

We review this policy at least once a year and whenever the check changes. Last reviewed: 10 October 2026.
